Improperly discarded lithium-ion batteries can be extremely dangerous. When tossed into regular trash or recycling bins, they can ignite and reach temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Fires like these threaten homes, waste facilities, and most importantly, public safety.

How you can make a difference:

• Never place batteries in household trash or curbside recycling. Even a small spark can lead to a major fire.
• Cover the ends of used batteries with tape to stop short circuits.
• Take batteries to a certified drop-off location or return them through a safe collection program.
• Share this knowledge with friends, family, and coworkers so awareness spreads as quickly as possible.
